Working on the DMAIC Project

Once a DMAIC Project is started, the system will activate the workflow and enable each step in the sequence identified in the workflow. The task will be enabled and will show up as a doable task in the task overview window (shown on the right when the user logs-in). You need to open the DMAIC project details window to mark the task done and proceed to the next step. There are two ways of navigating to this window.

  1. Through the method defined earlier in this document. Go to DMAIC Projects list window and click on the desired project
  2. Open the ‘my work’ window by clicking on the Tasks overview window and then clicking on the task will open the desired project

Once you open the window, you need to select the task that you want to work on. (Please note that if you open the window through ‘my work’ then the chosen task will be pre-selected.

The options for the task will be shown on the right side of the selected task. Some examples of the options available for working on a task are shown below.

Simple Task

For a simple task, you can mark the task as ‘Work in Progress’ so that your team knows what you are working on and then later ‘Activity Done’ to mark the completion of this task.

Please note that at anytime you can use the comment box for the following:

  1. Add a comment for the task
  2. Ask a question to any subject matter expert who is part of the team working on this project.
  3. Assign a small sub-task to a team member. This sub-task will appear as a quick task for the team member on his ‘Task overview’ and ‘My work’ windows.

Task requiring you to upload a document

For such a task, you need to upload your document using the ‘Upload new version’ button as shown. As the name suggests you can upload as many versions of the document as you want. Projectile maintains a versioned repository for your project documents.

Again, at anytime you can use the comment box for the following:

  1. Add a comment for the task
  2. Ask a question to any subject matter expert who is part of the team working on this project.
  3. Assign a small sub-task to a team member. This sub-task will appear as a quick task for the team member on his ‘Task overview’ and ‘My work’ windows.

Adding CTQs (Metrics or Project Ys)

For working with CTQs (VOC And VOB) you need to fill in the details of the project metrics identified for this project.

Project Team

As part of working on this task, you can define (or re-define) the team working on this project. This task requires a special permission which is set through the admin functionality

Project Charter

You can define the charter using the form shown on the right side.

Project Timelines

You can define the timelines for all the phases of the project.
